B J Skeels aka Bazza Nova -
Born in London but moved to Basildon, Essex when 7, he started his first band The Growth whislt still at school in 1964 with fellow classmate Steve Drewett. 3 years later they went on to form STEVENSONS BLUES DEPARTMENT, with Bazza on guitar & bass and Steve, vocals / harmonica, they performed their version of the blues in many established London & home counties, blues clubs & pubs,. Being invited to support PETER GREEN’S FLEETWOOD MAC whenever the played in Essex, which was often. They were prolific in hunting for work and could be seen at playing at Blue Horizon, Wandsworth, The Angel & Manor House, Highbury & Islington, Tavistock Town & Country, Camden, Marquee, Studio 51 to name a few. After several support slots with JETHRO TULL they were offered support on TULL’s first UK tour, which for various reasons they couldn't take up.
That same year Steve & Barry expended from a duo to form the band BUM. They had record
label interest but only if hey changed the band’s name so in 1967 they became
IRON MAIDEN (drummer Paul Reynolds later joining chart band The Pinkees & and replacement
drummer Steve Chapman later joining USA band Poco) (Today known as the ‘Original’
Iron Maiden, releasing 1 album -
Moving to Newcastle in 1985 he managed to secure the bass playing position in THE BLUES BURGLARS, who boasted Paul Lamb (Kingsnakes) on harmonica and John Whiehill, guitar (voted 4 times UK best blues guitarist). In his career Bazza has also worked as guitar tech & tour manager with VENOM, ANATHEMA, RIOT, TROUBLE, SKYCLAD, SAMSON, BLACK SABBATH, SAXON, MANOWAR, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, MY DYING BRIDE, PARADISE LOST, QUIRE BOYS, LOVE HATE, RAGE and many others. In the late 90’s / 2000 he helped form northeast soul band THE SOULUTIONS before leaving to join THE BLACK RIVER BAND and in Nov '09 fhe ormed the ROAD RUNNERS with Black River singer/harpist Barry Robson and in Nov 2014, after being invited to help the band out, he joined GHOSTBAND with Brian Vasey on guitar / lead vocals & Chris Bennett on drums. Now in 2021 (after the Covid Pandemic) along with Jim Clare, guitar / vocals & Chris, drums / vocals they have formed GODZZ OF WOR.
